Dr Balvant Rajani
Dr Rajani is a Principal at Rajani Consultants Inc., a company he has founded in 2012 soon after he retired after nearly 20 years of service at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) where he was Principal Research Officer. He has a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from University of Alberta, M.Eng. in Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics from McGill University, and B.Sc. (Civil) from Imperial College, London.
Dr Rajani has expertise in the behaviour, performance, analysis and design of municipal infrastructure: decision tools for the renewal, rehabilitation and replacement planning of water mains, risk assessment of large transmission mains, design of water mains, sewers, trench backfills, frost loads, sidewalk performance, unfrozen and frozen soil-structure interaction, oil and gas pipelines performance; infrastructure related to oil and gas industry; offshore structures and foundations, finite element analyses.
Dr. Rajani joined National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in 1992 and there he established a strong research group to address issues on buried infrastructure (water and sewer) and established strong interaction with municipalities, public utilities and related manufacturing industries. At Rajani Consultants Inc. he continues to work in the development of decision tools for the renewal, rehabilitation and replacement planning of water mains, risk assessment of large transmission mains, performance of grey cast, ductile and PVC water mains, trenchless technology, sidewalks, trench backfills. Dr. Rajani has written or co-authored over 240 publications of which over 100 are in refereed journals or conference proceedings.
